District V - 2010/12
Hi, gang. I have been pretty impressed by some clubs out in the district. You have been very kind and gracious to me, and for that I thank you.
Warbirds Over Atlanta
I had the opportunity to visit the Georgia Model Aviators RC Club's (GMARC) Warbirds Over Atlanta. It was one of the best-organized and best-run events I have attended.
John Singer, Chris Kennedy, and Larry Towner, along with their club staff, made model aviation shine in a safe, open-to-the-public environment.

I also had the opportunity to meet with one of the city commissioners who attended, and he had only good things to say about the club.
Special Guest
One of the Enola Gay's surviving crew members, Theodore "Dutch" Van Kirk, was a guest at the event. The Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, and Van Kirk was the navigator. It was an honor to meet this American hero at one of our modeling events. Kudos to the Georgia Model Aviators!
Mentoring Program
The GMARC has a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. This is what modeling is all about: we bring the youth in, we mentor them, and they will not depart from that path when they get older. I know — I was mentored in the program 40 years ago!
I will be seeing most of you this coming year, and I can't wait to share the sky with you.
Stay safe!
