District V

Jose Soto, District V Vice President; [email protected]

Well, folks — this has been a very busy time in the district! Recent events included:

  • Joe Nall
  • Top Gun
  • The Gathering of the Giants
  • Peach Pattern Classic
  • East Coast Huckfest (Orlando, FL)
  • Many other great local events

I have met a great many of you and have had the pleasure of flying with some of you. I will come to see and meet most of you in the near future and will do all in my power to help promote our hobby. Your associate vice presidents (AVPs) are very busy, which is a good sign that we are all active in flying and promoting the hobby.

I have changed computers, so if you have a chance and want to send me an email, direct it to [email protected].

The East Coast/West Coast Huckfest took place this past May and, in our district, the Remote Control Association of Central Florida (RCACF) hosted the event. Kirby Keene and I were the contest directors (CDs), and the event was a great success.

Part of the proceeds from the Huckfest went to the Wounded Warrior Project — a very worthy cause. The weather was perfect, the food was excellent, and flying went on from Thursday to Monday through the Memorial Day weekend!

Thanks to Andy for the pictures.

Peach Pattern Classic — Andersonville, GA

Report from Humberto Pomales, AVP in Central Florida:

We arrived for practice on Friday, June 3, 2011, and there were already 18 pilots putting in practice flights. The contest took place on Saturday and Sunday.

We flew four rounds on Saturday and two rounds on Sunday. The weather was perfect, although a bit hot. There were 27 contestants, and the contest director, Emory Schroeter, did a fantastic job running the event.

This is growing to be one of the best-attended contests, and Hodges Hobbies, right on site, is a perfect match to a perfect field. Thanks to Mac Hodges and all of his crew for providing such a great venue!
