Hello, District V.
I had the pleasure of speaking at
the Bay City Flyers club at Land O’
Lakes, Florida, on April 7. This group
of modelers is as outstanding as any,
and boy do they have a nice field!
We were at one of the club’s two
flying sites, Flying Field 52. It is an
outstanding two-runway field with
a great shaded area, open patio, and
a wonderful cafeteria-type vendors’
spot—just amazing.
This club went through a terrible
situation involving theft, but it did not
deter club members or detract from
the leadership team moving forward.
I have to thank the Bay City Flyers,
Mike Diesu, President Dan Carter,
and all of the club’s staff for allowing
me to speak at such a great RC venue.
Dan is doing an outstanding job of
leading his staff, and this club is a
model of what we all should try to
achieve.
If you have the opportunity,
don’t miss out flying at this field.
You will love it! Thanks, Bay City
Flyers! Check the club out at www.

On April 4, 2012, I was in
Hattiesburg, Mississippi, at the
Pinebelt RC fly-in. Event director
Jeff Williams is the sparkplug of the
club, and did a great job planning
and organizing the event. Everyone
there had a great time! This is an open
fly-in, so there was a large variety of
aircraft types—everything from small
electrics to 35% airplanes.
What would a Pinebelt fly-in be
without blowing something up? This
year, while a dozen or more foam
electric warbirds flew a tribute to
World War II, they attacked a large
model of a German V2 Rocket. Yes,
it was blown up—big time! What a
bang.
Other than blowing stuff up,
Pinebelt is known for its great buffet
lunch! The table was full of virtually
anything you might want. There was
pork, chicken, pizza, and much more.
This is something special, and is more
than the typical fly-in!
There is a rumor that Mac Hodges,
of Hodges Hobbies, will be there in
the fall to fly his giant bomber. That
would be something. I can’t wait! To
view photos of Pinebelt RC events,

Congratulations to the Azalea City
Model Aeronautics club of Mobile,
Alabama, for winning the Club
Attendance Award. See you in the
fall, during the first weekend in
November.
