Edition: Model Aviation - 2012/09
Page Numbers: 135

Roger Marshall, AMA District V
Associate Vice President (AVP)
of South Carolina, submitted the
following report:
The Carolina Sod Busters club and
the Giant Scale Warbirds Association
co-hosted the Sod Busters Warbirds
Invasion at the Modern Turf sod farm
near Camden, South Carolina. The flyin
was held April 27 and 28, 2012.
In perfect flying weather, 45
modelers flew from dawn to dusk
on both Friday and Saturday. Forest
Morris of York, South Carolina, was
the CD for the meet. In addition to
the usual large numbers of Mustangs,
Thunderbolts, and other WW II types,
there were many World War I aircraft
at the meet—some outstandingly
detailed.
Lamar Blair, 58, died June 9, 2012. He
is survived by his wife, Vickie Jarrett
Blair. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home
handled the arrangements.
He was an active member of
the Decatur Model Airplane Club
(DMAC) in Decatur Alabama, for
many years. He was instrumental in
the acquisition and development of
the Flint flying site and devoted many
hours of his own time to supervising its
construction.
He was a past president of DMAC,
and served in that capacity for several
years. He was also an active Pattern
flier and at one time was ranked
nationally and sponsored by one of the
leading radio manufacturers. Lamar
also was AVP for AMA District V for a
number of years
Because of his declining health he
had not been active in the DMAC for
the past two or three years.
He will be missed.
