The New Year has come and gone. Hello 2014! I have been in office now for a few months and things are looking great.
I want to say thank you to the District V members for giving me this opportunity to take a place on the AMA Executive Council and represent each of you. I will always keep modelers (because I am one) and local clubs (because I am a member of one) in mind at all times when decisions are made that may affect us.
We have many great events in our district. I hope to see you at one of them.
Let’s get these builds done and get ready for a great flying season!
Andrew Griffith sent me the following report about the 2013 Orlando Radio Control Helicopter Society’s Helicopter Blowout. The great photos are from Andrew, too!

“The Orlando Radio Control Helicopter Society (TORCHS) hosted its 6th annual Orlando Helicopter Blowout. Any club would agree that a club with 100 members is large, but what makes TORCHS unique is that it has more than 100 members who are all helicopter pilots.
“TORCHS also hosts the largest club-run, all-helicopter fly-in anywhere that I know of, and it may be second in attendance only to the International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association’s IRCHA Jamboree.
“The Orlando Helicopter Blowout took place December 5-8 and attracted nearly 300 pilots, including some of the biggest names in the hobby. Bert Kammerer and Carey Shurley ran the event with total support from the TORCHS club members. Many proceeds are donated to local charities such as the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
“People such as Mitch Marozas from Chicago, Kyle Stacy from Rochester, New York, and many others were glad to escape the winter storm that was freezing most of the rest of the country and enjoy three or four days in the 80° Florida sun.
“Rachel Plant made the trip from England and there were others who made this a truly international event.”
