THE MAKOS RC JET CLUB, located in
Homestead, Florida, held its second annual
Warbirds Show on September 5-6, 2009.
Pilots from across south Florida descended
on Homestead to take part in the two-day
event.
This was its second event of this type and
was well received by spectators and club
members alike. The types of aircraft on
display varied from WW II warbirds to the
more recent F-16, F-15, and F-22 turbinepowered
aircraft.
The Makos RC Jet Club has two 500-
foot paved runways perfect for the most
demanding aircraft needs.
The event attracted 17 registered pilots
and a large number of spectators.
The first day started off early. I arrived at
roughly 9 a.m., and there where already a
few pilots flying and spectators checking out
the aircraft. The day progressed and I was
able to catch flights of the turbine aircraft
and have some great conversations with
some of the pilots.
One of the aircraft that caught my eye
was an electric-powered C-130 with its own
RC tow vehicle; it was just too cool.
Unfortunately, this being south Florida,
the rain started at approximately noon and
did not let up until 6 p.m. On Sunday, the
rain gods cooperated with the event and they
had a full day of flying.
