FLAGLER COUNTY Radio Aero
Modelers (RAMS) Cub Scout Day. I was
able to drive down and attend the Flagler
RAMS club Cub Scout Day at the club’s
wonderful flying site in the Palm Coast,
Florida area.
The RAMS club has a great working
relationship with its county administrators
and continues to work with them. They
occasionally even have visits from the
county commissioners and they have all
enjoyed some RC stick time with club
members.
Great job, guys! I wish every club in
District V would understand what a great
advantage you have when you have the
local officials on your side!
When I arrived the skies were clear, but
the wind was going to be a problem for the
club trainer, which was a Senior
Telemaster. Club members had met with
the Cub Scout troop the night before, and
the kids were really excited about flying.
The winds made it almost impossible to
stay in the air, but several kids did get stick
time before the wind gusts got the most of
the Telemaster, and the wing was ripped
from the fuselage, with the resulting crash.
That was exciting for the kids, but it also
meant the end of the day for flights. The
club is going to reschedule the program with
another trainer soon.
This group of modelers really has a good
time and works well together. They made
everyone feel at home and I enjoyed
meeting with and talking to many of the club
members. If you are in the area, I am sure
the RAMS club would be happy to have you
fly with them!
Ocala Model Flying Club Pattern Contest. I
was able to attend the annual Ocala, Florida,
spring Pattern contest in March. This event
is eagerly anticipated by the RC Pattern
community every year. This year, the
weather started out chilly on Saturday
morning, but became a very nice flying day
by noon.
The Ocala club is a very active club that
holds many events each year. If you are in
the area, make sure you check out the club
Web site and make it out to the field. It is a
very nice site with a great grass runway
area.
You might want to check out the club’s
event schedule and visit during the next
event. A great flying site makes for a great
day at the field!
