Hello District V! This month we have
plenty going on.
The coverage of the Florida Jets event
was provided by AVP Pablo Fernandez.
Florida Jets was again a who’s who of
model jet flying. The weather for [the
March 1-4, 2012] event was marred by
a vicious crosswind that took its toll on
the landing gear of many aircraft. Frank
Tiano ran a good show, but the landing
gear demolition derby was a downer
for many of the pilots. We hope for
better weather next year!
Alberto Enriquez, from Modellbau USA, with
his CT-114/CL-41 Tutor.
Aircraft on display.
A group of pilots from the Miami Makos RC
Jet Club (L-R): Miguel Alvares, Jorge Escalona,
Marvin Alvares, and Willie Bernabe.
The Classic Pattern Association is big
in the district. Scott Anderson sent in
this report:
District 5 has been a hotbed of
old style Pattern flying. The Classic
Pattern Association (CPA) has formed.
It evolved from the earlier Ballistic
Pattern Association. Gary Courtney
held the club’s first contest in August
of 2007 at Huntsville, Alabama.
CPA’s goal is to promote Pattern as
it was flown during the pre-turnaround
era—using replicas of the historic
models made famous by the skilled
pilots of that time.
In 2011, there were 11 CPA
contests and gatherings in the US,
from the upper Midwest, Northeast
to the Southeast, and to the West
Coast. There are several CPA events
scheduled for 2012 in these areas.
The events are set up for four classes:
Novice, Sportsman, Advanced, and
Masters. These reflect the use of RC
Pattern rules from the classic era.
Tuned pipes and retracts are
encouraged but not required. The
common denominator to these events
is everyone having fun.
The CPA has a website at www.
classicpatternassociation.com as well
as a separate Classic Pattern forum site
at www.classicpatternforum.com. The
CPA does not require you to join, but
paid members have a voice in voting on
CPA business. More information can
be found on the sites, or email us at
[email protected] .
