The heat is on!
Hello District V, the heat is starting
and so is the competition! Ken Blackwell
sent in this report:
The National Society of Radio Control
Aerobatics (NSRCA) District II-District
III Shootout pattern contest was held last
weekend, March 31, and April 1, 2012.
Victor Diaz was the CD. Larry and Chris
Odom did the scoring. Larry also assisted
with the judge assignments.
The Henry County RC Club provided
food. Mike Williams made the trophies
and Ken Blackwell did the photography.
Many thanks to all who supported the
contest.
We had 32 contestants (four FAI, nine
Masters, five Advanced, six Intermediate,
and eight Sportsman). Nine of the
contestants were from District II. Many
thanks to all for coming and joining the
fun.
Airplanes have gone ARF and electricpowered
for the most part, with a big
showing of the new Vanquish. However,
some of us glow-engine and homebuilt
folks made a showing at the event.

Paul Verger sent this in:
March 16, 17, and 18 was the date of
the Mobile (Alabama) Big Bird and 3D
Fly-In. It was hosted by the Azalea City
Model Aeronautics club, and Tony Pirkle
served as CD. Tony did a great job of
planning and running the event, which
was mostly the idea of Wes and Marie
Batson. Wes wanted to bring a big 3-D
event to Mobile, and boy did he succeed!
When they first announced the
March dates, I had two thoughts. First,
I thought the weather would be bad
in mid-March; it often is. Wrong! The
weather was perfect. Second, I thought
the turnout would be poor. Wrong
again! Nearly 50 fliers from at least five
states came to Mobile to fly.
The flying was outstanding, but you
didn’t have to fly 3-D to be a part of the
event. It was open to anything that was
at least (sort of) a Big Bird.
Lunch was provided to all fliers on
Saturday, and it was great! Louisianastyle
pork and sausage jambalaya was
had by all!
A special thank-you goes to Frits
Jetten for taking pictures for me.
I’m hoping this will become an annual
event, so plan to be here next year.
