District VI - 2010/07
Decatur, Indiana
Here's something your club might consider doing before next Christmas. Club #2648, the Decatur Eagles RC Club, has hosted the "Shop with a Cop" fly-in, cookout, and benefit for the last four years.
The purpose is to give underprivileged children in Adams County, Indiana, the chance to receive Christmas gifts when their parents cannot afford them. Local law enforcement personnel escort the children to shop for clothing, books, toys, and other needed supplies.
Each selected child receives $100, with 70% designated for clothing, books, and school supplies. This year the Decatur Eagles generated enough money to help five children.
The annual event includes all-day demonstrations and activities:
- Surface demonstrations, including RC cars and trucks
- Flight demonstrations with RC airplanes and helicopters
Many other clubs participate, including:
- Fort Wayne Flying Circuits
- Celina Flying Sportsmen
- Huntington County Modelers Club
- Converse Flying Eagles
Tom Mettler, secretary of the Decatur Eagles, submitted the information and photos.
