Reports

#### Muncie, Indiana Dave Brown, AMA’s president, presents awards to members many times a year. I had the pleasure of surprising him at a recent Executive Council meeting. The Vintage Radio Control Society (VRCS) inducted Dave into its Hall of Fame because of his accomplishments at national and international contests. Along with the plaque, he is now a lifetime member of the VRCS.

#### St. Louis, Missouri (Ed Henry) Bob Underwood, Associate Vice President of the St. Louis area, sent the following report.

Maxi-Award for Micro-Creator: Recent action by the AMA Executive Council bestowed the Academy's highest award, that of membership in the grade of Fellow, to Ed Henry. The award recognizes Ed's many years of aeromodeling activity, not only in the greater St. Louis area but also nationally.

Ed was instrumental in the creation of a number of clubs in the St. Louis area and was a prime mover at McDonnell Douglas. As a contest director he led many events throughout the years. He was noted for his night fly-ins and his candy-drop model, which dispensed goodies from the air.

Visitors to the National Model Aviation Museum in Muncie can study Ed's famous "Fly Seat." This device replicates the controls of an actual aircraft and allows an RC model to be flown in a realistic manner.

Until recently, Ed provided a bit of RC whimsy in each edition of Model Aviation through pen-and-ink cartoons called "Microhenrys." The situations gently poked fun at the trials and tribulations of a rather inept flier. In Ed's case, the material was not biographical in nature.

Unfortunately, recent health concerns have caused Ed to restrict his modeling activities. He still enjoys the friendship of many St. Louis area modelers as well as the memories and best wishes passed along by modelers nationwide.

Congratulations to a "Maxihenry" from all his little "Microhenrys" nationwide!

#### St. Charles, Illinois The Fox Valley Aero RC Club collects old model magazines and places a sticker on the cover. They then leave the magazines in barbershops, doctors' offices, and similar locations. They find this generates calls and often picks up a member or two. Information provided by Mel Ziska, an officer of the club.

#### Charlestown, Indiana AVP Frank Roales visited the Southern Indiana RC Modelers' swap meet. The club had a great turnout with modelers coming from Louisville, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Evansville. The Civic Center, where the swap was held, is an excellent location.

#### St. Louis, Missouri (Lafayette Esquadrille) The Lafayette Esquadrille held its 10th annual Old-Time Control Line Contest. There were 20 contestants in four events: SAM Slow Flight, Old-Time Stunt, 1/2A Golden Age Speed, and Perky Speed (per 2000 Postal rules). Ron Carr supplied the photos and information.
