PEKIN, ILLINOIS: The Pekin R/C Club,
#755, held an open house as part of the Pekin
Park District’s 100th anniversary celebration.
The club enlisted the services and equipment
of the AMA Air Show Team Lincolnland
Modelers to assist them with the day’s
activities, including demonstration flying and
putting kids on the sticks.
In addition, the public was given an
explanation about how models are built and
how they fly. The club was able to be part of
a TV production about the Park District. Jim
Shupe provided the pictures and information.

Morrison, Illinois: The Morrison Model
Aircraft Flyers participated in a Boy Scout
Jamboree for the White Eagle District. This
included more than 200 Boy Scouts plus
their leaders and chaperons from Dixon,
Sterling, Morrison, Oregon, Rockford, and
the Chicago area. This year’s jamboree was
held at the Whiteside County Airport in
Rock Falls, Illinois and focused on Aviation
Adventure.
The club presented six programs
throughout the day for all the Scouts. Each
program included the theory of flight, how to
build an airplane, different types of aircraft,
etc.
Participating in the programs included
Dick Landsiedel, president, Steve Kerber,
Doug Kent, and Matt Kent. The Scouts had
very good answers for the questions that
were tossed out, and they showed a lot of
interest in the hobby.
Dick Landsiedel and Steve Kerber explain
what makes an airplane fly and the basics
of flying Radio Control.
The Scouts were asked questions
regarding airplanes, flight, etc. and they
usually had the right answers.
A group of Scouts are held spellbound as
they listen to the history of the airplane,
the different types of airplanes, and how
they fly.
On display were a J-3 Cub, a Giant Scale
WACO biplane and several electricpowered
airplanes.
