Columbia City, Indiana

Scott Hill teaches at Indian Springs Middle School and sent pictures of his aviation class’s project. These students are 12 and 13 years old and attend school in Columbia City, Indiana.

One class project was a Sig Fazer. Students were divided into groups; each group built a different part of the airplane. A Fox .45 was mounted for power, and the aircraft flies like a dream.

All of the students joined AMA through this class, some receiving the magazine. The group took roughly nine weeks to construct the model, using their half-hour meetings. Three students have since built their own airplanes, and one has joined the local flying club as its youngest member.

The aircraft was purchased through Hobbyland in Fort Wayne. Jeff, the manager and owner, was helpful in supporting this program.

Chicago, Illinois

Mitchell Heller sent a picture of his 38 Special, built from a Brodak kit. The fuselage is finished with Brodak dope and the wings are covered with white MonoKote. Power is a Fox .35.

Indiana / Illinois

Associate Vice President Frank Roales sent in some pictures from his travels. The first are from the Henderson Radio Control fly-in. There were 103 pilots registered and approximately 200 airplanes on deck.

Frank also took pictures at the Prop Busters’ Catfish fly-in at Browns, Illinois. Roughly 50 airplanes were displayed. The weather was less than ideal, but some good flying was found between the wind and rain.
