182 MODEL AVIATION
AS I WROTE last month, this has been a
great season.
Bill Oberdieck (L), District VII vice
president, presents Hardy Brodersen with
the Model Aviation Hall of Fame award.
I had the distinct honor to be able to
present Hardy Brodersen the Model
Aviation Hall of Fame Award. This took
place at the Detroit Balsa Bugs meeting in
front of all of Hardy’s friends. Hardy has
been a member of AMA since 1936 and was
deeply involved in helping to set up
National Free Flight Society.
Hardy has been an AMA vice president
more than once, and received the AMA
Meritorious Award. He has been a CD since
1972. Hardy is a man of many talents. He is
an author and inventor and has placed in
many FF contests including the Nats.
It was truly an honor and a pleasure to be
able to present to Hardy Brodersen the
Model Aviation Hall of Fame award.
Richard Streetman, assistant principle of
Boulan Park Middle School in Troy,
Michigan, and a member of the Hamburg
Flyers R/C Club sent in the next report. This
is an example of how clubs can get involved
with youngsters.
This is the fifth year that the middle
school has offered students the opportunity
to get involved with aeromodeling. At
present 30 youngsters have built their own
airplanes, have soloed, and have become
AMA members. The pictures tell the story.
Dave Keats assists eighth-grader Matt
Demarco.
Matt Gebara gets flight instruction as Eric
Elinski flies solo.
Richard Steetman’s office doubles as a
hangar.
How about some of you grandparents
getting your grandchildren involved? You
just might have a ball.
Fly safely and have fun. C.A.V.U.
