District VII - 2010/10

Dedication: "Little Wings — Big Dreams" Exhibit

On Sunday, July 25, 2010, at approximately 6:00 p.m., history was made in AMA District VII.

The event was the culmination of efforts by two large aviation-oriented organizations: the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). It was a partnership combining the two organizations in promoting aviation to youngsters, and the dedication of "Little Wings — Big Dreams," a model aircraft exhibit in the EAA AirVenture Museum.

The dedication and partnership would not have come to pass without the efforts of AMA President Dave Mathewson and Tom Poberezny, EAA's AirVenture chairman, and the hard work of their respective committees.

The special ceremony was held in the lower level of the museum before invited guests of the EAA and AMA.

I felt very proud to be an AMA member and especially to represent District VII as AMA Vice President at the dedication, and to have the opportunity to capture this moment photographically.

Youth programs and involvement

Some of you may not know that the EAA has been involved in programs for youngsters for many years. The EAA has fostered KidVenture and Young Eagles programs dedicated to the promotion of aviation to youngsters. The AMA has participated in the KidVenture program for many years as well, with support supplied by local Wisconsin AMA-chartered clubs during AirVenture.

I'm sure there will be more coverage of this major event. I believe this partnership will be a win-win opportunity for both the AMA and EAA for a long time to come.

In the meantime, fly safely, have fun, and don't forget to introduce a youngster—male or female—to our hobby and sport. Our legacy will be to the youngsters.

Enjoy these pictures I took at the dedication of the Little Wings — Big Dreams exhibit at the EAA Museum.
