District VII - 2011/05

This is a first—and to say hopefully the last would be the understatement of the year. My desktop decided to go south for the winter and I am forced to write on a laptop. This means I have two different systems at startup, so I’ll have to relearn what I already know.
I was lucky to attend the annual Flying Pilgrims R/C Club of Canton, Michigan Giant Scale Fly-In. The attendance of pilots matched the weather—great, to say the least!
The Pilgrims club is one of the local clubs in the Detroit area that puts on a grand two-day show. A Stuka Ju 87 and a Fieseler Storch caught my eye. I then recognized the owner of both as Glenn McIntosh.
I had sold Glenn the Stuka a number of years ago as a partial in-the-bones scratch-build when I found I didn’t have the time to finish it. What Glenn had done with the parts I gave him was outstanding.
Another aircraft that caught my eye was the R-2 Gee Bee, for which I have Henry Haffke plans. That’s another project waiting to be started.
And just to prove that even the pros have a bad day, here are two shots from the Red Bull Air Races held in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Until next time, fly safely, have fun, and promote our hobby/sport. Take a youngster with you when you visit the flying site.
