WELL HERE IT IS—another month
already, and for me a great one. I’m sure
there are members who read this column
who can relate to what I recently went
through. Suffice to say I now have a very
different outlook on life.
I had a heart scare second to none, but
because of modern medical technology I
am here to write this column. According to
the doctors, I had one foot deep in the hole
and the other on the proverbial banana
peel.
But that is enough of that for now; I
plan to be around for awhile. This column
is about District VII happenings.
The first report was sent in by Pete Smith
of the Southeast Wisconsin Area Remote
Modelers (SWARM) of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Pete says the club members
had an idea for starting the New Year a
little differently and submitted the
following pictures.
Unfortunately Pete left out an important
part. He neglected to name the fellows in
the shots.
Pete noted that the winds were
approximately 25mph gusting to about 35,
and the pilots still flew their helicopters.
When asked if the weather bothered the
pilots, they said, “We love this hobby—it
just makes it more of a challenge.”
As you know, District Vice Presidents
(VPs) have Associate Vice Presidents
(AVPs) to assist with some of the issues
that clubs may have. In my column header
to the left are the names of the AVPs.
Unless you know any of these people
personally, you would not recognize them.
Well, here is a shot of a pair of aces backto-
back. On the left is Jon McVay, Iowa,
and Tom Pierce, Michigan, taken just
before a recent meeting at Muncie.
For those of you who have not had the
pleasure of visiting AMA Headquarters in
Muncie, Indiana, I have included some
random shots of the National Model
Aviation Museum.
The staff has done a fantastic job of
cataloging and displaying some of the
finest items of historical significance to
model aviation.
Until next time, fly safey, have fun, and
introduce a youngster to model aviation.
