District VII Report - 2003/11
Centennial of Flight
I hope many District VII members had an opportunity to take in some of the numerous special events and air shows this past year.
It has been 100 years since the Wright brothers flew at Kill Devil Hill in December of 1903. Imagine: in such a short time we have proceeded from being bound to the earth to actually being able to travel through space and walk on the moon. One hundred years is a short period of time to traverse. Could anybody in those days envision what would transpire? I doubt it. I'm sure the next 100 years will be just as exciting for flight.
End of the Flying Season
In the meantime, this flying season has just about come to a close for our part of the country. Some of us are already getting involved in planning projects for next year's flying season. It is never too early to plan ahead.
Events and Nominations
We have had the AMA Homecoming, the Grand Event, and nominations of candidates for certain districts. Needless to say, it has been a busy year and in some cases rather hectic.

This month will be the issue for all those members who say they don't see any coverage.
Grand Event — Des Moines
I attended the Grand Event in Des Moines this year and I have to say, without a doubt, that the Des Moines-area modelers did themselves proud. To put on an event such as the Grand Event is by no means a small task. My hat's off to you all.
This photo was in AMA president Dave Brown's column in the September issue of Model Aviation. I took this picture showing Mathew Brocker and Dave talking it over. "Gee, Mr. Brown, I thought you had it." "And I thought you had it, Mathew." So you see, it can happen to any of us.
AMA Staff Involvement
This last shot shows, without a doubt, that AMA staff members get involved. Carl Maroney is attempting to set up a giant kite. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough wind to get it airborne. Maybe next time, Carl.
Till next time, fly safely, have fun, and bring a youngster into our hobby/sport. C.A.V.U.
