I want to introduce Tom Ryan, District VII’s newest AVP, who brings to District VII a varied background that will be of great help, especially with turbine issues.

Again this month I am promoting our District VII website at www.amadistrictvii.org. I started it for the membership of the district and now I have a new webmaster to keep it going. I hope that this time it will be successful.

In the meantime, I have been visiting mall shows and swap meets attempting to get some member input on various issues. I’ve also explained that it is becoming increasingly important that we pay more attention to safety issues. I have asked all the District VII associate vice presidents (AVPs) to assist me in helping to reduce some of the liabilities associated with safety. I’ve given them the title of Chief Safety Officer and they will be looking into potential problems and bringing them to the attention of the CD or club safety officer. This is not intended to be a police action nor is it to be construed as such, but sometimes we can be so close to the trees we can’t see the forest.

Russ Burkett, secretary for the Cadillac Area Modelers Society (CAMS) in Cadillac, Michigan, sent in this report of the club’s 27th annual Labor Day Fun-Fly. The aerial shot of the field was taken with a 35mm self-winding camera mounted in an Easy Fly .40 flown by Russ.

Russ noted that there were approximately 40 pilots who attended, flying everything including helicopters and a variety of fixed-wing aircraft. There was a spectator attendance of more than 400. Not too shabby for a small-town turnout. The CAMS are looking for a bigger and better turnout in 2004. Anyone who is interested in information for this year’s event should contact Russ at [email protected].

From the Southwest High Flyers RC club comes the next report by Bob Kant. Bob went into much detail about how fond everyone is of the flying-site owners, Dave and Helen Boldt. He noted how much the Boldts have contributed to make this a premier flying site. Because of space, we’ll just have to show some of the pictures.

In closing I have one more thing to mention. Remember, safety is no accident. Let’s all do our best to help reduce accidents and please make sure that your local EMS and police departments know where your field is located. A few minutes in an emergency could make a big difference.

Till the next time, have fun, fly safely, and introduce a kid to our hobby/sport. C.A.V.U.
