District VII Report - 2004/09
It's that time of year again when the membership of the AMA will be asked to select a person for the position of president of the AMA. It is not my place to campaign for any of the candidates who have been selected by the AMA nominating committee, but I do feel that it is important enough to bring it to the attention of District VII members who read this column. We all are concerned about our organization. This is one time when we have a voice in who will lead as president. I ask you to carefully study the candidates' backgrounds and their campaign statements and then cast your vote. Make sure you return your ballot to the right address. In the last election, 10,000 votes were not eligible because they went to the wrong place and could not be counted.
Alpine Leisure Pilots Society (ALPS) — Gaylord, Michigan
I received the following pictures from Guy Barber, District VII Associate Vice President (AVP). They are from the first annual swap meet held in March by the Alpine Leisure Pilots Society (ALPS) of Gaylord, Michigan. Unfortunately there are no captions attached to the shots; ALPS members will have to check them out.
Flying Electrons — Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin
The next one is from the Flying Electrons of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. The club's president is Tim Roliff. It is hard for me to believe there is no snow on the ground for a New Year's Day fly-in. In fact, from the pictures it doesn't seem to be all that cold unless those hearty souls are just plain warm-blooded. When it gets in the 30s I start thinking of hanging it up for the season.
Canton Flying Pilgrims — Canton, Michigan
The Canton Flying Pilgrims of Canton, Michigan, had a special guest at their meeting in February. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Alex Jefferson was a P-51 fighter pilot with the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II. Lt. Col. Jefferson spoke of his early days of training and becoming a fighter pilot with his group, flying fighter cover for the bombers out of Italy. He spoke of his being shot down, captured by German troops, and becoming a prisoner of war. Needless to say, Lt. Col. Jefferson is another veteran America can be proud of. This report was submitted by John Lane.
Till next time, remember, safety is no accident. Have fun and introduce a youngster to our hobby/sport. C.A.V.U.
