District VII Report - 2005/05

EACH MONTH I receive newsletters from
clubs all around our district. I am now
getting them via E-mail as well as through
the U.S. Postal Service. Believe it or not, I
do read every one.
As a writer of a monthly column, I am
fully aware of how difficult it must be for
some of you newsletter editors to get
information for your newsletters, but no
one said it was easy. I must admit that I am
impressed with some of the work that
comes in.
Some small clubs have only one page
whereas the larger ones have a number of
pages. Most of them are printed in black and
white, but I am seeing some very good fullcolor
newsletters with great pictures.
I want to congratulate and thank all of
the newsletter editors for the time and effort
that they put into producing the newsletters.
Here is a reason to be proud of some of our
youngsters. Mark Schaefer sent in this
report. The pictures are by Tom Sova.
Brett Sanborn of the Cloud Busters club
of Flint, Michigan, was selected for a place
on the United States Junior team at the team
trials in Lakehurst, New Jersey, for the F1D
World Championships held in Slanic,
Romania.
The event was held in a salt mine with a
210 foot ceiling. Brett’s times at the World
Championships were 28:18 and 27:08
beating the third-place junior by 31/2
minutes, earning Brett a second-place silver
medal. Congratulations, Brett.
The United States team won first place,
finishing more than 33 minutes ahead.
This is a group shot of all of the winners.

Brett and team member Dave Rigotti stroll
across the venue.
Following the same theme of World
Championships, Dale Campbell sent in these
pictures of the 2004 Scale World
Championships held at the Air Force
Academy in Deblin, Poland.
Dale thought District VII members might
like to see what goes on outside of our
boundaries. Unfortunately he did not include
any captions.
Till next time, have fun, fly safely, and
introduce a youngster to our hobby/sport.
