District VII Report - 2008/04

This is a perfect example of how a district associate vice president (AVP) can assist the district vice president, the district itself, and the clubs within. Tom Ryan, District VII AVP, supplied the story and all photos.

Overview

It was August and time for the Warbirds and Classics Over the Midwest air show, put on by the Fond du Lac Aeromodelers club. Modelers from neighboring states drove in to help the club put on the show.

Notable pilots and aircraft

  • Carl Bachhuber with his very large aircraft, the Boeing B307
  • Dennis Crooks with his great P-38 Lockheed Lightning

Aircraft ranged from the classic era of World War I, such as the Fokker tri-wing, to the present-day F-22 Raptor jet fighter.

Attendance

Pilot registration showed as many as 50 pilots ready to take to the skies and show off their skills with their airplanes.

Atmosphere

Mix all of this with youngsters standing with open mouths looking up in awe, the delicious smell of brats and burgers on the grill, and the telltale odor of JP-4 jet fuel and glow fuel, and you just might have an air show. We'll let the pictures tell the story.

Event details

This year's air show is August 15–17, 2008.

Closing

Until next time, take a kid to the field and show him or her how much fun there is in modeling instead of sitting in front of a computer screen. Fly safely and have fun! C.A.V.U.
