MANY of our AMA chartered clubs have
their own Web sites. These same clubs hold
events throughout the year, whether they are
fun-flys or for special occasions such as
charities or fundraisers.
Putting pictures and reports about these
events on your own Web site is great, but
your members were there and saw what was
going on. Why not share your event
coverage with others by sending me the
information to place in our District VII
column? It isn’t hard to do.
Send me hard-copy photos or highresolution
shots on a CD. Include a short
report that answers who, what, when, where,
and why. If you plan to send me an e-mail
with pictures, send them as attachments at
least 300 dpi resolution.
Your district vice presidents and associate
vice presidents have a difficult time trying to
catch all the events during our short flying
season. Send me your event coverage. It’s
like bragging rights.
Bob Weller, from the Wausau RC
Sportsmen Club, sent this report in. The club
holds a mall show, as many other clubs do,
except in the case of the Wausau club, it is
also tied into its Take off And Grow (TAG)
program.
The mall show display shows a simulator
and gives an overview of building from plans
(scratch), kits, as well as ARF and ARC
aircraft. Prospective members are given free
coupons to use on a buddy-box flight at a
future TAG day at the field. That is a great
way to get interested people to the field.
Warren Pope is one of the original six
founders of the Wasuas RC Sportsmen club.
The club provided an excellent selection of
aircraft for the community to view and a
chance to talk to the members.
This AT-6 Texan has a 102-inch wingspan,
weighs roughly 28 pounds, and is powered by
a G-62 engine.
From RCCD, the Radio Control Club of
Detroit, Ken Sulkowski sent in these shots
that show what can be done with a little bit
of effort. RCCD has been holding Kids
Nights for the past six years or so. These gettogethers
are held two or three times a year.
The sessions start out with Delta Dart
building instructions followed by
explanations about why an airplane flies.
Then they move on to the buddy box for
some serious flying. To top it off, everyone
is treated to a barbecue.
Each youngster is sent a Certificate of
Achievement. Ken writes that when you see
the smiles on the youngsters’ faces it makes
the effort and work all worthwhile.
RCCD has been a premier club in getting
involved with youngsters. Hopefully this
short series of shots will spur other clubs to
get involved.
Till next time, fly safely, have fun, and get
involved. C.A.V.U.
