ANOTHER SAD DAY for our modeling
community. Miles Reed, innovator,
designer, builder, businessman, and one
heck of a pilot, passed on this last
September. It’s a loss to all of us who knew
him. Our sincere condolences to his family.
It’s drawing close to the end of our flying
season here in the Midwest. It’s time to start
watching for the swap meets to be published
and getting ready for the holiday season.
Hopefully everyone had a great season
with plenty of your favorite type of flying.
How about getting an early start on checking
out your gear to see if anything needs
replacing or repaired?
In the meantime the following report and
photos by Bill Lund again will show what
getting involved is all about.
July 2009, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was the site
of the Experimental Aircraft Association
(EAA) AirVenture and also where the
Northern Aces Air Show Team assembled to
again do KidVenture.
This is a part of the EAA gathering
where youngsters can get an opportunity to
experience what flying an airplane is all
about, even if it is a small model. By no
means is this a small undertaking by the
Northern Aces.
It takes a considerable amount of time
and energy to get donations of airplanes to
be used during the six days of the event.
This year’s operation included both an
outdoor and indoor site to accommodate all
the youngsters who were involved.
Bill Lund had Mike Haller, Dave Flick,
and Bill Kvindlog as instructors, along with
Gary Doeren, team manager, and Mark
Enderby keeping the fast pace all together.
Let’s let some pictures tell some of the story
and see the article on page 40.
Recently, a sponsored air show team had to
cancel its appearance for the Cleveland Air
Show. This is a major event over the Labor
Day weekend. A last-minute call went out to
the Northern Aces Air Show team from
Green Bay, Wisconsin.
With less than two weeks to get people
and gear together, it seemed it might not
happen. But because of the dedication of the
members, it did. They packed up and drove
from Green Bay to Burke Lakefront Airport
in Cleveland Ohio. Congratulations for a job
well done on short notice!
From the left: Dave, Mike, and Gary are the
three musketeers who pulled it off.
Till next time, fly safely, have fun, and get
yourself and your club involved in promoting
our wonderful hobby. C.A.V.U.
