Great Planes E-Fest (February 11–12, 2006)
The first annual Great Planes E-Fest (www.gpe-fest.com) was held February 11–12, 2006, at the University of Illinois Armory in Champaign, Illinois. Frank Noll was the event director. Contact: 410 South Bourne, Tolono, IL 61880; phone: (217) 485-3454; Email: [email protected].
The event included an open fun-fly, an invitational freestyle contest with several thousand dollars in prizes, and an indoor night fly. Hobbico was the prime sponsor, with a number of secondary sponsors. There were more than 250 pilots in attendance.
Many District VIII AMA members attended as spectators, pilots, or exhibitors. Sean McMurtry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, placed third overall in the invitational freestyle contest.
Everyone who attended had a great time, and planning for the 2007 Great Planes E-Fest is already underway.
