Now that is has gotten colder, most of us have been working on new projects for the coming year. Hopefully, by the time the weather has warmed up and I get to fly without a jacket on, I will have my 600 size helicopter inside of the military MF500 body I got last year. It should be fun to bring out and fly at some heli events.
I hope that everyone had a safe and wonderful holiday season. This year’s schedule of events will likely be posted on the District VIII website so that everyone can see where I am headed for any given weekend. I have already started creating a schedule of events that I have been asked to attend in the coming year. I will try and make it to as many as possible.
In October 2013, we had the AMA mobile experience (Education trailer) and I was able to get it up to the World Aerobatic Championships, north of Dallas. Numerous clubs helped man the trailer for the event, and I want to thank them. The Texoma RC Modelers Club, Richardson Radio Control Club, North Dallas R/C Club, and Tony Breyen from the Wichita Falls Radio Control Club—all worked the trailer and did an outstanding job for District VIII. I want to give a special thanks to Charley Thomas for taking on the entire schedule and getting us set up.
After the event, the trailer went back down to Houston for another air show. There was an awesome response and a great turnout. We were lucky to be able to have the trailer in the district for such a long period of time, and for it to make all of the events. Big thanks go to AMA Education Assistant Jessy Symmes for her hard work.
In November, the only event I was able to attend was an all-Scale event held in Tucson, Arizona. I have always enjoyed it.
This year, I met some men from Dumas who were looking for warmer weather to fly in.
I was there with nine other pilots from the Albuquerque area. The club donated all of the proceeds from the event to the Toys for Tots program.
Hope to see you all at the field!
