Temple Aeromodelers — Santa Pal / Ronald McDonald Toy Fly-In
The Temple Aeromodelers held a Santa Pal/Ronald McDonald Toy Fly-In at McGregor Park, Moffatt, Texas on December 1. The entry fee was one new, unwrapped toy. All proceeds went to the Santa Pal/Ronald McDonald House program.
While I was there, I experienced a new, fun model—the Pizza Box Flyer. For more information, do an Internet search on Pizza Box Flyer or start at: http://mypage.yhti.net/~dmcdnld/pizzabox.htm. Try one—you will like it.
Fort Bend RC Club — El Paso to Rosenberg Cross-Country Flight
What will get 233 miles per gallon of gasoline? A model flying in the Fort Bend Radio Control (RC) Club’s El Paso, Texas to Rosenberg, Texas Cross-Country Flight, held Monday, September 23, 2002.
Crew:
- Jim Rose
- Don Haun
- Darrell Haun
- Peter Jacobson
- Dean Umbarger
- Bob Nelson
At full load, the model had a gross weight of 27 pounds. Fuel weighed eight pounds. They planned for at least eight hours of flight time with a full charge each leg of the flight. The crew members have all stated that they had a great time and they want to thank all who helped. For more information about this cross-country flight, consult www.scaleaero.com/fortbend.htm.

Photos and Awards
The following two photos were taken by Doug “Chief” Powell at the Albuquerque RC Club’s (ARCC) Christmas party. Chief is District VIII’s RC Contest Coordinator and Chairman of the new RC Combat Contest Board.
The highest award AMA bestows is that of membership in the Grade of Fellow. An AMA Fellow honor is awarded for lifelong, dedicated service to AMA and its membership and programs. A Life Membership to AMA is included with the honor. Few know of this ultimate recognition and very few ever reach it.
Our District VIII Webmaster, Bill Lee, on the nomination and recommendation of the AMA Executive Director, Joyce Hager, was recently chosen for this prestigious award. During the weekend of December 8, 2002, at the ARCC Christmas party, I surprised Bill with the presentation of this award. In my 45-plus years of association with AMA, it was one of the happiest things that I have ever done. During this new year, share a toast with other modelers and say thanks for such dedicated volunteers as the newest AMA Fellow, our very own Bill Lee! Well done!
Flying, fun, and fellowship!
