SHOWN ABOVE is the Golden AMA
Chartered Club Officers Wings, awarded for
serving as a club officer in the Albuquerque
Radio Control Club. Additionally, the club
presents silver wings to all members who
solo through the club’s intro-pilot program.
In the center of these wings is the club logo.
This award is jewelry and very attractive
so that any modeler would be proud to
display it.
The casting company can produce a
similar item with your club’s logo for an
unbelievably good price. They are cast in
pewter and then plated.
If you are at all interested in having this
for your club, please contact Bruce Cooley,
1105 Espejo NE, Albuquerque NM 87112;
tel.: (505) 296-1921; E-mail:
[email protected]; Web site:

(Neither the AMA nor I have any
financial connection with Coyote
Metalworks.)
January 1, 2003, Muncie, Indiana, and
Delaware County dedicated this new
$500,000 regional EMS facility. During the
February 2003 AMA Executive Council
meeting, I attended the facility’s open house.
This complex was created on AMAowned
land at the northwest corner of the
International Aeromodeling Site. It will serve
eastern Muncie and the neighboring county,
as well as the entire AMA complex.
The AMA and all of aeromodeling are
concerned citizens no matter where they
coexist in any community. This facility was
built at no cost to AMA and is leased for the
next 50 years to Delaware County for $1 per
year. I was proud to represent you when
supporting the construction of this EMS
station. Aeromodeling, AMA, and its
members and clubs are good neighbors!

glue that bonds model aircraft enthusiasts

The Tejas RC Association held its
Midwinter Air Show February 21-23, 2003 at
the club field (near the Edinburg Airport on
Highway 281, the “route of the snowbirds”)
in Edinburg, Texas. The contest director
(CD) was Bert Hahn, Route 3, Box 202B,
Edinburg TX 78541; tel.: (956) 842-3656.
The club advertised, “Be sure to bring
your sunglasses, shorts, and sunscreen.”
They were right. The weather cooperated and
was beautiful as it always is in South Texas
during the winter! There was a live band and
dance Saturday night. A $20 landing fee
included the dance and barbecue Saturday
evening. This event was open to all current
AMA members. Pilots earned prizes by
flying; the more you fly the more you win. It
was a great break from winter.
Many thanks to the Tejas RC Association
for hosting such an enjoyable event. The
following photos are from this event.
Seen above right is Jim D. Marshall, Box
9092, Mission TX 78572; tel.: (956) 585-
6446; E-mail: [email protected]. He is a
gracious host, a hardworking Associate Vice
President (AVP) for District VIII, and a
darned good PA announcer.
If you are even considering wintering in
South Texas, please contact Jim; he is the
leader of the snowbirds.
Above left is Douglas E. (Chief) Powell,
Radio Control (RC) Contest Coordinator for
AMA District VIII, who attended this event
from Wichita Falls, Texas.
Mike Rampley, of the Tri-City Flyers, with
his 38-pound 3W Ultimate bipe.
CD Bert Hahn, shown above at a pilot’s
meeting, ran a tight and fun event!
A flag raising with the Pledge of Allegiance
and national anthem opened the event.
A noon walk of the airplanes let the
hundreds of spectators get up close to the
models and modelers.
Sunday, February 23, 2003, AMA District
VIII AVP Jim Rice (118 E. Wright Blvd.,
Universal City TX 78148; tel.: (210) 945-
8221; E-mail: [email protected]) hosted a
dinner meeting with most of the hobby shop
owners and AMA chartered-club officers in
the San Antonio, Texas region. We had a
spirited discussion for an extended period.
We then adjourned to attend an Indoor RC
fly-in. Wow! Has the ability and technology
for Indoor RC made advancements of late!
Seen above is George Hicks (E-mail
[email protected]). Torque rolls and rolling
circles are but a few of the exciting
maneuvers he displayed.
Both photos above by Doug Powell.
Flying, Fun, and Fellowship! Dr. Sandy
Frank, representing you to the AMA
Executive Council (Board of Directors).
