Shown above during a Radio Control
Combat Association (RCCA) points event
is 16-year-old Derek Birdwell of
Jacksonville, Texas. He gets lots of
practice as he has a personal model flying
field at his home.
SEEN below the Lake Area Radio Kontrol
Society’s (LARKS) early-year fun-fly. It was
held March 15-16, 2003. All types and sizes
of aircraft were welcome.
Don Kozlowski is shown at Lake Charles,
Louisiana, with his Balsa USA Cub
powered by a G-23. He flies with the
Beaumont, Texas, club. It was a realistic
flier!
The LARKS hosted the National
Aeromodeling Championships (Nats) in
Lake Charles, Louisiana 1974, 1975, 1978,
and 1986.
Shown above with his biplane, Charles
Stevens, an associate vice president in
District VIII, inducted the CD, Mike Moss
(seen below), into the Dirty Dozen Society.
I attended a model aircraft club meeting
where I listened to a review of a program that
is a fund-raising venture for the club. One
actively involved club member has taken the
responsibility of gathering unwanted and
unneeded model aircraft materials from club
members who have chosen to present these
gifts for fund-raising to the model club.
This individual then photographs,
categorizes, and describes all donated
materials and places them for sale by way of
the Internet. During the first month of this
project, the club was presented with more
than $200 as a donation to their field
improvement fund!
This club desires to purchase a new riding
mower for its field improvement program. At
this club meeting numerous items were
donated by club members to be sold as part of
this fund-raising project. This appears to be
working and the possibility of this club
attaining its new riding mower seems likely.
Consider taking this idea and extending it
toward fund-raising for your club. It has
possibilities! Contact Stephen E. Bennett,
[email protected], for more
information.
March 9, 2003, the Soaring League of North
Texas, club 1957, hosted a 10-minute time
slot event at South Fork Ranch in Murphy,
Texas. The CD was Robert Taylor, tel.: (972)
222-5020 evenings.
Although it was still cool, the attendence
was good and all present had a good time.
Flying, fun, and fellowship! Dr. Sandy
Frank, representing the membership of AMA
District VIII (TX, NM, OK, AR, and LA) to
the AMA Executive Council (Board of
