About Dr. Frank's Involvement
Several people have asked how long I have been involved with model aircraft flying and the AMA organization. A photograph in the next column can best be dated to 1959. I am shown with a Voodoo, a Nobler, and several competition awards. During that period I was flying radio-controlled models with homebuilt tube-type equipment; it was marginally successful. My AMA membership predates that photograph.
Thunderbird Warbird Fly-In
This was the Thunderbird’s seventh annual Warbird Fly-In. Open flying of all aircraft was encouraged, World War I to the present, fixed or rotary wing. There was a free pilots’ lunch and many door prizes. For additional information, see the Thunderbird website: www.fwthunderbirds.org.
Planesmen MAC Yard Sale
The Planesmen MAC held its second annual Model Airplane Yard Sale on May 17 in White Settlement, Texas. Admission was free and the event was hosted at the home of Fred Wolfe. For more information, contact Fred Wolfe at (817) 246-6777.
Lockheed Martin Aeromodelers Club
Above are members of the Lockheed Martin Aeromodelers Club, an indoor flying society. For more information, contact Ed E. Couch at [email protected]. The club members fly many Fridays at 3400 Bryant-Irvin Road, south of I-30, at a Lockheed Martin recreational facility in Ft. Worth, Texas. Flying, fun, and fellowship!
The Academy of Model Aeronautics—the glue that bonds model aircraft enthusiasts together!
