October 3-4, 2003. If you, your company,
your Special Interest Group, or AMA charter
club are interested in establishing a
commercial tradeshow display at the October
2003 event, please contact me at the above

These spaces are going fast and we will be
sold out very soon, so act now if you want to
be an exhibitor at this event!
Several people have asked me how long I
have been involved with model aircraft
flying, and the AMA organization. The
photograph in the next column can best be
dated to 1959.
I am shown with a Voodoo, a Nobler, and
several competition awards. I was flying
radio-controlled models with homebuilt tubetype
equipment during this period, but it was
marginally successful. My AMA membership
predates this photograph.
Shown above are the participants at the Bill
Slatter Memorial Warbird Fly-In,

Lake, 4800 Alicia Drive, Fort Worth, Texas,

contest director (CD). The sponsoring club
was the Fort Worth Thunderbirds.

Slatter Memorial Warbird Fly-In. Seen in the

president Ray Thompson.
This was the Thunderbird’s seventh
annual Warbird Fly-In. Open flying of all
aircraft was encouraged, World War I to the
present, fixed or rotary wing. There was a
free pilots’ lunch and many door prizes. For
additional information, the Thunderbird’s
Web site is www.fwthunderbirds.org.
