IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for me to attend all
happenings and events within AMA District
VIII so I am soliciting your input.
Please mail the hard copy, pictures, and
the floppy disk or CD directly to me at the
address above.
Note: Send your submission snail-mail
only, not via E-mail.
On October 10-12, 2003, the Soaring
League of North Texas hosted its annual
Sailplane TNT event at South Fork Ranch
in Murphy, Texas. The following photos
are from this event.
Dave Lear, the Hand-Launch Glider (HLG)
contest director (CD), ran a tight event as
seen here at the Friday morning pilots’
meeting.
F. W. (Bill) Estill of Katy, Texas, performs
the discus launch with an HLG Radio
Control Sailplane at the TNT.
Aeromodeling can be a lifelong activity. I
have known Bill through our crossed
paths in modeling for more than 45 years.
The Academy of Model Aeronautics is the
glue that bonds model aircraft enthusiasts
together!
The International Miniature Aerobatics
Club (IMAC) South Central Regional
Championships were held October 10-12,
2003. Wally Pitts was the CD ([817] 354-
4635; E-mail: [email protected]). It was
the first annual South Central Regional
Championships.
The Golden Triangle Helicopter Contest
was held October 11 and 12, 2003. Bill
Kunz was the CD ([972] 946-3000). The
event sponsor was the Golden Triangle
RC Club.
Induction into the AMA District VIII
Dirty Dozen Society: No matter how big an
aeromodeling club is, there are always the
“dirty dozen” in the club. These people are
usually not the best fliers or even the most
famous in the club. They are the ones who
do the dirty tasks that must be done so the
rest of the club can have so much fun and
enjoyment.
They mow the field, move the portable
toilets, and do the hundreds of other lessthan-
glamorous things that must be done
for a modeling club to thrive.
The award certificate states, “In
recognition of outstanding efforts
promoting the sport and hobby of model
aviation, contributions above and beyond
the call of duty, and setting examples that
inspire fellow members, this AMA member
is hereby inscribed into the rolls of the
AMA District VIII Dirty Dozen Society.”
The award certificate concludes with, “It
has long come to my attention that people
of accomplishment rarely sit back and let
things happen. They are the ones who go
out and make things happen.”
These AMA members were inducted
into the Dirty Dozen Society on October18
and 19, 2003.
It was in New Waverly, Texas, at the All
Electric Fun-Fly and Swap Meet where
Max Taylor, CD and club president, was
inducted into the Dirty Dozen Society.
At the new NDRC field in Denton, Texas,
CD Jack Zimmanck was also inducted.
Flying, fun, and fellowship! Dr. Sandy
Frank, your representative to the AMA
