Jim Luster of San Diego, California, presented his spectacular electric-powered 1/8-scale He 219 Uhu German night fighter at the July club meeting of the Silent Electric Flyers of San Diego (SEFSD).
Jim’s Uhu is scratch-built from Vance Moser plans. It is molded balsa, plywood, and carbon-fiber construction and is powered by two geared electric NeuMotors with 5200 mAh Li-Polys. The airplane is finished with Polycrylic over 3/4-ounce fiberglass and latex paint. The completed weight is 22 pounds, and the model includes functional retracts and operating navigation and landing lights.
On November 12, Jim Luster’s Uhu showed up again at the San Diego County Association of Model Clubs’ (SDCAMC) annual Veteran’s Day Warbird Fly-in. This fourth annual event was hosted by the First Weedwacker Aero Squadron and held at the club’s Cactus Park Field in Santee, California.
November 12–13, Eric Rule of RSM Distributors sponsored and CDed the annual Charles A. Mackey Open in Ramona, California. The contest was conducted by the San Diego Control Line Association, headed by Dave Sabon. Following two days of perfect weather and much control-line fun and flying, Bob Whitely from Tucson, Arizona, took first place in Classic.
Till next time... Keep 'em safe and keep 'em fly'n.
