District X - 2008/07
Palomar RC Flyers — January 19, 2008
On January 19, 2008, the Palomar RC Flyers in San Diego County hosted Los Caballeros, a youth group from North County, to introduce roughly 16 kids and their chaperones to the joys of RC aircraft modeling. John Sebastian led a classroom session on the construction and creation of RC models, demonstrating how they are assembled and how all the parts work together.
After the class, the kids became flight students and were assigned to instructors at the flightline. Each student flew one of the fleet of trainer models using a buddy-box hookup so the instructor could take control if the student got into trouble.
Event details:
- Approximately 20 members of the Palomar Flyers volunteered to help.
- Flight instruction began at 9:30 a.m. and continued through noon.
- Snacks and drinks were provided during a break in the flight activities.
Credits:
- Gary Thompson served as Contest Director (CD) and provided this report.
- Tom Johnston provided the pictures.
- Thanks to everyone who helped out.
Hemet Model Masters — April 11–13, 2008
One of the great things about living in District X is the year-round flying enjoyed by the majority of the district. On April 11–13, the Hemet Model Masters in Hemet, California, conducted another successful Scale Masters qualifier.
As usually happens, the wind picked up during the afternoons, which put a damper on flying on Friday, but the Model Masters were able to complete all rounds. Several nice scale airplanes and competitors qualified.
Thanks:
- Special thanks to Chris Wolfe for taking pictures with his new high-resolution digital camera.
- Thank you to Associate Vice President Jerry Neuberger for providing this report.
Till next time... Keep 'em safe and keep 'em flyin'.
