AT THE OCTOBER 26, 2002 Executive
Council (EC) meeting, District X Associate
Vice President (AVP) Jerry Neuberger from
Santee, California, was presented AMA’s
Distinguished Service Award for his
outstanding achievements, dedication, and
commitment while serving as chairman of the
Hall of Fame Ad Hoc Committee.
During a two-year period, the select
committee worked diligently behind the
scenes to update and revamp the Hall of Fame
selection process.
Under Jerry’s leadership and through the
dedicated efforts of the committee, the Hall of
Fame selection procedures were updated,
streamlined, and provided the infrastructure to
continue this very important process for years
to come.
Other members of the ad hoc committee
included Bill Netzeband, Norm Rosenstock,
Charles Mackey, and Dale Kirn. Thanks to all
of you for your hard work and dedication.
AMA president Dave Brown presented the
Distinguished Service Award to Jerry
Neuberger.
October 10-13, 2002
the Arizona Model
Aviators, Mesa AZ,
hosted the US Scale
Masters Association’s
(USSMA) 23rd Annual US Scale Masters
Championship. The 2002 Scale Masters
Championship saw 45 individual and 12 team
entries.
The Contest Director was Austin
Goodwin, Vanguard Leader, Jim Demming,
and USSMA National Chairman Earl Aune.
2002 Scale Masters Champion Kent Walters
from Scottsdale AZ. Kent’s SBD-3 Douglas
Dauntless tied for top static at 98.00 points
and won the USSMA Championship with a
total score of 192.08.
Ramon Torres Sr. of Miramar FL tied for top
static and took second place with this
gorgeous Beechcraft Baron and a total
score of 188.67.
Eugene Job of Santa Rosa CA placed third
with his Hawker Sea Fury Mk 11.
Scale Master qualifiers line up their aircraft
on the runway centerline as hundreds of
spectators were given the opportunity to
get an up close and personal view of these
spectacular aircraft.
Earl Aune, Aurora OR, starts his F4-U 5N
Corsair Night Fighter for the Saturday
afternoon round. Earl’s all-black Corsair
thrills the crowd as it folds its wings while
taxiing back to the pits.
Doug Crumley, Wichita KS, demonstrates
the short field capabilities of his Fieseler
Storch.
Shailesh Patel (L), Eureka CA, and crew
came equipped with a complete portable
ground-support unit for his turbinepowered
JMP T-33A.
Bob Francis, Aptos CA, makes a perfect
landing with his immaculate one-of-a-kind
Turbo Raven.
