Late-breaking news from Headquarters

2002 Chartering Kits

The 2002 chartering kits will be mailed beginning in January; they will go to the 2001 club contacts.

A recent change in officers must be submitted in writing. This will ensure that the kit is mailed to the appropriate person.

Send your changes to Lois Pierce, Club Secretary, 5161 E. Memorial Dr., Muncie IN 47302; Fax: (765) 741-0057; E-mail: [email protected]. MA —Membership Department

Mandatory Club Bylaws

During the October 27, 2001 AMA Executive Council meeting, a unanimous motion was approved that requires mandatory bylaws for clubs.

New clubs chartering in 2002 will be required to provide bylaws in that charter year. Any existing clubs are required to provide bylaws in 2003.

AMA HQ will provide a document with the minimum requirements for such bylaws and will provide sample bylaws upon request.

Organizational bylaws usually deal with such items as name, purpose, membership, dues, officers and duties, executive committee, safety, meeting place and time, order of business, and how to amend the bylaws.

If an AMA club has an issue unique to the local area, it should be addressed. All bylaws should provide a way for them to be amended.

The Academy of Model Aeronautics' bylaws can be found in the AMA Membership Manual and has included the rules for amending the bylaws (Article XV). This information is also on the AMA Web site. MA —Carl Maroney Special Services Director

Flying Site Development/Improvement Grant

The Academy of Model Aeronautics has approved the formation of a committee to administer the distribution of funds, in the form of grants, to clubs in support of their flying-site development and improvement projects.

The limited funds will be dispersed on a yearly basis, with applications being submitted no later than April 1 of each year, and grants being awarded May 1 of each year.

Grant application forms and instructions will be posted on the AMA Web site, www.modelaircraft.org, by January 1, 2002. The applications will be downloadable in PDF format for completion by the club president.

The completed forms—approved by the district vice president—and all other required materials should then be mailed to the Programs Department at AMA Headquarters for consideration.
