Frank Zaic
Frank Zaic—one of the great pioneers of model aviation—passed away in late May 2005. He was 92 years old and had been in declining health.
Frank was one of the founding members of AMA, serving on its inaugural executive committee. He and H.W. Alden started the MA publication in 1935. A prolific writer, Frank's Year Books and books about model aerodynamics have been a valuable resource for generations.
Frank essentially had five careers in model airplanes. As a builder and flier, he was a national and international contestant. He authored, published, and illustrated many books and articles about model aviation. He co-founded and operated JASCO—a modeling supply business—designed and produced kits, and researched the science of aerodynamics and design.
Internationally recognized for his contributions to model aviation, Frank's many honors include being the first American to receive the FAI Paul Tissandier Diploma in 1956 and receiving an AMA Fellow award in 1960. The Model Aviation Hall of Fame was established in 1969, and Frank was one of that year's inductees. MA
