A traveling exhibit about invention and

License Cards
We apologize for the delay in getting
renewal license cards to members. The cards
and decals took a full six weeks to be delivered
to AMA Headquarters. Because of the volume
of renewals received by that time, printing the
cards became a lengthy process. MA

John Pond Plans
AMA has purchased the John Pond plans
service. This collection encompasses more
than 13,000 model-airplane plans, including
Radio Control, Control Line, and Free Flight.
Also included are 1,600 engine drawings.
This acquisition followed extensive
discussion concluding that the historical value
of this collection was significant enough to
justify the expense of purchasing the plans.
Many of the old-time kit plans are considered
priceless.
The Pond collection has been delivered to
AMA Headquarters at the International
Aeromodeling Center in Muncie IN. An
inventory is currently being conducted, and a
committee has been formed to study possible
options concerning the plans. In addition, the
committee will review the entire AMA Plans
Service operation to determine the best and
most cost-efficient method to organize,
archive, and offer model-airplane plans to the
membership.
Academy officials are hopeful that the
Pond plans will be made available to the
membership in the near future. However, no
decisions have been made concerning how the
plans will be incorporated into the existing
plans service, nor has a timetable been
established.
The newly formed committee will work
diligently with the staff of the National Model
Aviation Museum to see that an overall plan is
drafted in a timely manner to present to the
Executive Council at the February 2003
meeting.
