Control Line Jet Speed
Pull Test Increased
A Control Line Jet Speed record of 204.93
mph was set on December 7, 2002.
In accordance with the AMA rule book,
flight loads were computed using the
formulas in Competition Regulations. No
wire-size increase is mandated; however, an
increase in pull test is. As of this notice, the
pull test is increased to 56 Gs and the engine
(unenclosed) should receive an engine-mount
pull test of 56 pounds. MA

Insurance Requirements and Safety
Standards for Giant Scale Racing
At the AMA Executive Council (EC)
meeting held in Muncie, Indiana, on February
8, 2003, the EC approved two key items
relative to Giant Scale Racing. The Unlimited
Scale Racing Association (USRA) submitted
to the AMA Safety and Insurance
Committees two proposals for changes to the
current requirements.
As a result of the committees’
recommendations, the EC voted to approve a
revised two-pylon racing course and to drop
the requirement established in 1995 for a
matching $2.5 million event-specific
coverage provided by the sanction event
sponsor. Both items are effective
immediately.
This is an example of an AMA Special
Interest Group (USRA) working with the
national organization to bring about positive
changes based on experience, a high level of
safety procedures, changes in nonbusiness
sponsors, and significant improvements in
aircraft integrity. MA
