Museum Acquisition
AMA’s National Model Aviation
Museum has acquired an exciting piece of
aeromodeling history: an Army Air Corps
OQ-2A, US Navy designation TDD-1, target
drone.
The OQ-2A represents the first
production radio-controlled aircraft utilized
by the US military and, as such, fills a void in
the collection. MA

2003 AMA Homecoming
The 2003 AMA Homecoming took place
June 6-8 at AMA Headquarters’ International
Aeromodeling Center. A total of 72 AMA
members flew Radio Control (RC), and
approximately 15 members participated in
(each) Control Line (CL) and Free Flight
(FF) during the weekend. Members from 13
states and one member from Canada
attended.
Local boat, kite, and rocket clubs
managed operations at these areas. Many
kites and rockets flew each day, and the boat
pond had a nice amount of traffic.
Roughly 250 members and their families
were treated to a catered dinner under a large
tent at the RC flightline.
Homecoming is a great time for AMA
members to enjoy the International
Aeromodeling Center in a relaxed “fly for
fun” atmosphere. Plans are underway for the
2004 event, to be held June 4-6. We hope to
see you there! MA

2003 AMA Grand Event
The 2003 AMA Grand Event, held in Des
Moines, Iowa, June 6-8, was a great success.
More than 6,000 people enjoyed the handson
activities ranging from assisted RC and
CL flights to operating RC cars and boats.
Kids and adults made model rockets,
kites, parachutes, and gliders that they were
able to take home after flying.
AMA thanks the Des Moines Modelaires
for hosting the event and everybody involved
