FCC Examines Broadband Over Power Line Service (BPL)

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched an inquiry into provision of broadband services through power lines (BPL). This service would allow users to connect to broadband services by plugging a BPL device into an electrical outlet.

AMA recognizes the potential of such a system but is concerned about possible interference with radio-control systems. BPL would use frequencies in the 1.8 MHz to 80.0 MHz range.

AMA is studying the issue to determine the effect on the membership and will file a reply comment with the FCC. Depending on the outcome of this study, further action by the AMA membership may be requested.

History Program Booth

The AMA History Program will have a booth at the Southwestern Aeromodeling Conference on October 3–4, 2003, in Arlington, Texas. AMA is collecting biographies of as many modelers as possible and would like yours. You can drop off your biography at the booth or pick up a packet that will help you write it.

In January the History Program will have a booth at the 2004 AMA Convention in Ontario, California, so West Coast modelers are encouraged to participate and help preserve the history of the hobby.

See you at one of the shows. MA —Rich LaGrange, AMA Librarian
