Focus on Competition - 2004/08

I have many things to report this month (August) and not much space to do it in. (More about that in a bit.)
As most regular readers of this column know, the chairmen of each of the Contest Boards met at AMA HQ in February to review and modify the Contest Board Procedures. This document establishes the manner in which rules changes are handled, among other things.
The suggested changes then went to the Executive Council for final approval in April. We are happy to report that the Executive Council passed the new document. The new document goes into effect January 1, 2005.
Significant changes
Among the significant changes are:
- Move back to a two-year rules-change cycle while maintaining a Cross-Proposal phase.
- Compress the schedule to make the two-year cycle feasible.
- Make the web version of the Competition Regulations (rule book) the official version.
- Keep the web version up to date with any urgent, emergency/safety, or interpretation changes that occur during the cycle. A page in the front of the book will list what changes have been made and when they took place.
A printed version of the rule book will still be available; however, it will not be kept up to date like the web version. A complete version of the new document will be available on the website by the time you read this.
Included in this issue are the results for the final vote on the rules-change proposals in the current cycle. All proposals that passed will be included in the 2005 rules publications.
At roughly the time you receive this issue, the Nats and Control Line World Championships will be underway. We hope you’ve made plans to fly in the Nats and attend the World Championships. Both are spectacles you don’t want to miss!
Till next time... MA
