For all competitors, the 2015-16 rule book cycle is heading into the voting stages. You might want to check out the proposals page on the website at: www.modelaircraft.org/events/ruleproposals.aspx to see if your particular favorite has pertinent proposals pending. The system is set up so that you have representation on the board, and it’s your chance to have input into the changes that are made to the rule book. Read through the proposals and comment to your district rep on how you’d like to see these voted on. That’s your way of making a difference.
The biggest issue so far this year is the CL Scale group would like to see the Scale book split in two separate books with RC and CL. The other major pending issues are the Builder of the Model (BOM) rules for CL Aerobatics, which has been debated heavily the past two cycles.
The initial vote sheets will go to the boards at the end of March, so you still have time to get your two cents in and have your voice heard.
Congratulations to the team of Andre Mellin, Dave Brown, and Joseph Mekina who established a new world record for RC Electric-Powered Duration, FAI Class F5 Open, sub class 171S, for aeroplane models with electric motors and rechargeable batteries on August 5, 2013. The new record time of 18 hours, 6 minutes, and 13 seconds smashed the existing record by just under 6 hours, quite a margin!
From what I hear another record attempt is in the works for this team and we’re all wishing them the best of luck.
