The Inside Loop - 2012/10
Your feedback is key to shaping this magazine
I have spent considerable time at the newsstand looking at several publications and even a few digital-edition magazines. Model Aviation made a huge leap forward with its redesign that debuted with the March issue, but there's always room for improvement.
The Publications team agreed to give the new look at least six issues before making any major changes, to allow us and our readers to digest the new look and feel. Six issues later, I am carefully assessing our features, product reviews, and columns to ensure they are meeting the needs of the majority of our readers.
I have engaged our advertisers, companies within our industry, and MA's advertising representative. I want to get a clearer picture of how the magazine is viewed as well as our new digital edition, currently available for Apple and Android tablets.
As I am writing this, nearly 1,000 people have downloaded a free copy of the August issue. Some have already provided feedback, and I am hoping to receive more as we continue to release issues in this format.
Some of the feedback I receive comes from letters and telephone calls. I also learn much from conversations at events I attend.
When I was the assistant editor of MA and my picture was not in the magazine each month, I would frequently ask people at events what they thought of the magazine, without telling them I was associated with it. I truly wanted to hear people's opinions. After they told me what they thought—good or bad—I would then introduce myself and thank them for their feedback.
I am still happy to receive insight, whether people recognize me or not. Please don't hesitate to share your thoughts with me in person, by telephone, or by email, because I would like to know what you think!
"I Am the AMA"
We have received much praise regarding the feature that resides on the last page of the magazine. "I Am the AMA" features notable members of our organization and their experiences within the hobby.
I am always looking for interesting people to interview and share their stories. If you have suggestions about someone we can feature, be sure to send me an email. You never know who might turn up in the next issue!
That's all for this month. Keep 'em flying!
