Jets are cool!

In the January 2014 issue, we covered the Warbirds Over Delaware event and I received reader feedback that extra pages and photos showcasing more of the fantastic models present at the event would have been appreciated.

As I did for the Delaware event, I received several amazing photos from the Florida Jets event held in Lakeland, Florida, March 5–8, and have extended the coverage in this issue to allow more pictures to make it into the magazine.

If looking at all of the jets piques your interest in becoming a turbine jet pilot, be sure to read Peter Goldsmith’s article, "Beginner’s Guide to Turbine Jets," to learn more about the turbine waiver process and what goes into the care and feeding of these remarkable aircraft. Becoming involved in this segment of the hobby may not be as difficult, or as expensive, as you might think.

Toledo R/C Expo

As I write this, spring has finally arrived and temperatures are reaching a point that is conducive to prolonged outdoor flight. In two days, the Toledo R/C Expo opens to the public and I am eager to see all of the new products we can look forward to trying and flying this year.

The Toledo event was the first major hobby trade show that I ever attended, and I was as excited as a kid going to Disney World for the first time. To be able to see the latest releases from more than 200 exhibitors in one location was certainly a thrill.

Trade shows such as Toledo are an immersive experience, allowing you to see, hear, and touch a multitude of interesting products. I’m still excited each time I attend and I hope that enthusiasm shows in the coverage we provide. It’s my goal to deliver timely information through our website, showcasing pictures and videos within days of the show.

By the time you read this, our coverage of many of the exciting products that were at the 2014 Toledo Expo, held April 4–6, will be available online. Visit www.ModelAviation.com/toledo2014 for highlights and interviews from the trade show floor.
