Thank you for visiting

I've only been home from the Toledo Weak Signals RC Expo for a couple of hours as I write this. I wanted to be sure to thank everyone who offered feedback about the magazine or stopped by the Model Aviation booth to share thoughts and provide input. It was all positive and greatly appreciated!

Trade shows and flying events allow me and others on the Media and Publications staff to interact directly with members. I enjoy the opportunity to discuss the hobby we all appreciate and to get input on your satisfaction with the magazine and the content you'd like to see in the future.

I enjoy meeting our members, so please don't hesitate to talk to me at a trade show, flying event, or similar gathering.

Control Line

I have fond memories of my youth and my first Control Line (CL) model: the Cox PT-19. Its break-apart design, using rubber bands, saved it from most of my early mistakes. The more serious ones required a little glue, but the model and its Cox .049 engine held up reasonably well.

I don't know what became of my old model after I moved on to more advanced aircraft. A few years ago, I purchased another Cox PT-19 while attending the AMA Expo in California. It is proudly displayed in my hobby room and often tempts me to take it out for a flight.

For all of our members who like being "connected" to their models, this issue is for you. I have pulled together four feature articles covering several aspects of CL flying:

  • Construction: "Margaret June" by Bill Bischoff — of special interest to anyone who participates in Goodyear Racing.
  • "The Modern Control Line Scale Model" by Fred Cronenwett, Model Aviation's "Control Line Scale" columnist.
  • Clancy Arnold — a walk-through on building U/Tronics Control single-channel and multichannel encoder and decoder units.
  • Review: Micro-Scale Models Super Ringmaster by Allen Goff.

Enjoy!
