Aeromodelli Radiocomandati (ARC) model airplanes
Falcon Trading Co., 400 S. Indiana St., Hobart IN.
The all-plastic (except for motor) Aeromodelli Radiocomandati (ARC) Radio Control (RC) models are made using Terluran® ABS from BASF and are described as "nearly indestructible." ARC offers Almost Ready-to-Fly (ARF) models in three versions: the Ready (high-wing configuration), the Jupiter (low-wing configuration), and the Carosel (a larger aerobatic design).
- Wingspans: 62 to 67 inches.
- Fuselage length: roughly 47 inches.
- Weight: 6 to 8 pounds.
ARC chose an all-plastic design to minimize building time, simplify construction, provide easy flying characteristics, and deliver a strong structure. Terluran® ABS provides very good impact resistance, high strength and rigidity, environmental-stress-crack resistance, scratch resistance and hardness, and good dimensional stability. The dimensional stability of the molded components ensures easy assembly.
ARC uses proprietary blow-molding technology to produce polystyrene (PS) foam-filled ABS wings. The ABS/PS foam composite is strong, rigid, damage-resistant, and light.
Assembly notes:
- Average build time: eight to ten hours.
- Wings attach to the fuselage with a single bolt.
- Cyanoacrylate adhesive is used for other assemblies.
- Models can be painted; natural color is bright white.
- Most urethane-based paints or lacquers can be used; optimum results reportedly obtained with two-component automotive paints.
- Kits come with pressure-sensitive decals.
Flight and configuration:
- Wings have a true airfoil shape with a thick, semi-symmetrical profile suitable for smooth aerobatics at low speeds and high-speed flight.
- Compatible with a wide range of engines, from small two-strokes to large four-strokes.
- The Jupiter model is available for electric motors.
- A Ready Float version is available with pontoons and a water rudder.
