San Bernardino CA 92402; Tel.: (909)
885-3959; E-mail: [email protected].
CAD-drawn plans and laser-cut parts
are available for the Playboy. The
original was designed in 1940 by Joe
Elgin for Free Flight Power. The Playboy
is classified as an Old-Timer by SAM
and may be flown in many different SAM
events.
The CAD plans have been drawn in

Laser-cut parts are cut on a 100-watt
industrial laser—not an engraving laser
like many model kits today. As the laser
is moving fast and the balsa is on a
vacuum table, there is not the flash back
on the bottom of the wood like with
some machines. Balsa leaves only a
golden burn which will come off with
very little sanding.
Parts that need to be cut to shape
are laser cut; you supply the rest. Plans
are $13, laser-cut parts are $35
Shipping in the US is $6.
Specifications: wingspan, 71 inches;
wing area, 630 square inches; weight,
35 ounces; power, seven-cell 800 mAh.

Brodak .40 engine @ $99.99 from
Brodak Manufacturing, 100 Park
Ave., Carmichaels PA 15320; Tel.;
(724) 966-2726; Fax: (724) 966-5670;
E-mail: [email protected].
Brodak Manufacturing announces
the release of the Brodak .40—a highprecision
Control Line Stunt engine
designed to reliably cycle on and off
peak power during the entire flight.
An AAC (Aluminum-Aluminum-
Chrome) design, the Brodak .40
features a high-silicon aluminum piston
running in a chrome-plated aluminum
sleeve. The engine, which weighs 6.7
ounces, is an excellent power choice
for most classic Stunters from 550-585
square inches in wing area up to 40-44
ounces in weight.
In test flights, the Brodak .40 has
flown the Brodak Nobler, Cardinal,
Warbird Series, Accentor, Orientals,
and Tanager well. It has also been testflown
in heavier models (approximately
54 ounces), but that much load is not
recommended.
The Brodak .40 has a displacement
of 6.99cc, a bore of 21.2mm, and a
stroke of 18.4mm. The engine’s output
is 0.75 kwt/10,500 rpm, with torque of
4.3 H/m.
The Brodak .40, with muffler, is
available through hobby shops or can
be ordered directly from Brodak

is available online at www.brodak.com.
Adjustable Control Horn from
Sullivan Products, One North Haven
St., Baltimore MD 21224; Tel.: (410)
732-3500; Fax: (410) 327-7743; Web
site: www.sullivanproducts.com.
Considerable thought has been
given to the new design of Sullivan
Products’ new Adjustable Control Horn.
The offset between the hinge line and
the mounting hole is 3⁄4 inch. This
allows more room to place a hard point
dowel behind the hinge line, creating
better mounting stability.
The link clevis hole is reinforced
with more material in front of it with a
radius on the leading edge. The clevismounting
hole is counterbored on one
side to accept the Sullivan clevis pin
design and the use of its keeper. The
link is bored out to accept a 6-32
thread.
The adjustable control horn can be
infinitely adjusted to a maximum height
of 13⁄8 inches from the hinge line to the
center of the clevis hole on a 1⁄4-inchthick
control surface. The S566
Adjustable Control Horn can be used
on most 40- to 120-size models.
Pushrod and clevis assembly shown is
not included.
For more information, see your local
dealer or contact Sullivan Products.

Considerable thought has been
given to the new design of Sullivan

Playboy Sr. plans and laser-cut parts
from Bob Holman Plans, Box 741,
San Bernardino CA 92402; Tel.: (909)
885-3959; E-mail: [email protected].
CAD-drawn plans and laser-cut parts
are available for the Playboy. The
original was designed in 1940 by Joe
Elgin for Free Flight Power. The Playboy
is classified as an Old-Timer by SAM
and may be flown in many different SAM
events.
The CAD plans have been drawn in
and engineered by Tom Hunt for electric
power but may also be converted to gas
power. The Playboy is one of the most
popular Old-Timer models and makes a
good-flying Electric.
Laser-cut parts are cut on a 100-watt
industrial laser—not an engraving laser
like many model kits today. As the laser
is moving fast and the balsa is on a
vacuum table, there is not the flash back
on the bottom of the wood like with
some machines. Balsa leaves only a
golden burn which will come off with
very little sanding.
Parts that need to be cut to shape
are laser cut; you supply the rest. Plans
are $13, laser-cut parts are $35
Shipping in the US is $6.
Specifications: wingspan, 71 inches;
wing area, 630 square inches; weight,
35 ounces; power, seven-cell 800 mAh.

The Slope amateur who is searching
for a high-performance glider to
experiment with the joys of Slope flying
should take a look at this new 60-inch
Slope racer.
Those all-molded little models
redefine what penetration and energy
retention mean. They are so clean and
efficient that they don’t need to be
heavy-wing-loaded to carve the slope
skies at “warp” speed.
Particularly well suited for inland
Slope Soaring, the Ocelot’s relatively
low wing loading makes it easy to tame
down to relax and has comfortable flight
behavior, but if you want, you can push
this glider nose down a little and toggle
its racer switch on!
The Ocelot is an all-moldedconstruction
Slope glider. Its strong,
one-piece bolt-on wing and all flying
surfaces are hollow-core molded. It
features a strong fiberglass fuselage
with an “F3B”-type, slip-on, removable
nose cone. All control surfaces are
gapless hinged, and the V-tail elevator
pushrods are preinstalled. Molded servo
covers, a hardware set, and instructions
are included to make a complete and

modelSPORT magazine isn’t really
a magazine; it’s a TV-magazine style

explained how to fiberglass balsa
models). It shows how exhaust systems
are handled with the radial-cowled fourstroke
engines.
Next is how to check your
workbench surface for trueness—
essential before trusting it for building a
model! Then there’s a segment on
Laser Models’ Laser 3D—a 40-size kit
distributed by Great Planes that’s
perfect for learning 3-D maneuvers!
In ROT8, world-renowned helicopter
pilot Gary Wright demonstrates 3-D
helicopter maneuvers using a Logo 20

you’ll be blown away by footage
featuring 60- to 120-size electricpowered

In aboutENGINES, it’s 3W’s 50cc!
Next it’s World Models’ 27% Extra 300

Whetting the appetite for the next issue
is footage of Chip Hyde torque-rolling
his Ultimate (just feet off the ground) at

ounces in weight.
In test flights, the Brodak .40 has
flown the Brodak Nobler, Cardinal,
Warbird Series, Accentor, Orientals,
