150 MODEL AVIATION
Charm Sailplane @ $575 + S&H from
Jerry’s Models, 6135 Reseda Blvd.
Apt 210 Tarzana CA 91335; E-mail:
[email protected]; Web site:
www.netmeister.net/~jerry.
Charm—a new 100-inch RES model
from Ukraine—is now available.
Designed by world and national
record-holder Jerry Krainock, this
glider is designed specifically for
American RES and Bent Wing
competitions.
The specific goal of Charm has a
lift-to-drag ratio and sink rate to match
the available 3-meter models. Its
ready-to-fly weight is 26-27 ounces
(based on equipment used). This
means the model has a wing loading of
just more than 5 ounces per square
foot.
Using Mark Drela’s AG-24, AG-25,
and AG-26 profiles, Charm has a low
sink rate and a flat glide. Precise
landing is achieved by means of a
large spoiler in the center of the threepiece
wing. Since the stabilizer
unbolts, the Charm breaks down into a
small package for travel.
The vertical stabilizer/rudder is
larger than most fliers are used to
seeing and are based on Jerry’s
experience as a discus-launch-glider
flier.
This model is highly responsive yet
stable. An electric-powered version
should be available as you read this.
