Summer events and National Model Aviation Day
Throughout the past month I have visited a dozen states, attending several events. I appreciate the positive, enthusiastic attitude expressed by nearly everyone with whom I spoke.
Planning summer events
Has your club completed its plans for summer events? Planning, obtaining sanctions, advertising and related tasks take time. Waiting until the last minute nearly always generates mediocre results. If you need assistance, contact your AMA district vice president or one of the associate vice presidents.
Recommended steps:
- Plan event dates and format.
- Obtain necessary sanctions and approvals.
- Publicize the event locally and online.
- Reach out to your district or associate vice president for help.
National Model Aviation Day — August 16, 2014
Registration for the 2014 National Model Aviation Day is now available on the event’s website. Mark your calendars now for August 16, 2014, to host or attend an event near you.
Last year, during National Model Aviation Day events, AMA clubs raised $76,000 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. We also secured several state proclamations and received outstanding media attention nationwide in recognition of these events.
We want to continue building National Model Aviation Day, raise awareness for the hobby, and support a great charity that provides necessary programs for our wounded veterans. If August 16 is a problem for your club, please consider an alternative date that will work better.
Sponsorship and T-shirts
This year we are offering businesses and organizations the opportunity to reach the entire aeromodeling community by sponsoring National Model Aviation Day. Sponsors will receive many benefits and will help make National Model Aviation Day a nationally recognized annual celebration.
Also new for 2014, National Model Aviation Day T-shirts will be available in the AMA online store (see the ad on page 84). The shirts are useful for events, and proceeds from sales will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
