Thermic-50-Y2K @ $47 + S&H from BMJR, Box 1210, Sharpes FL 32959; Tel.: (321) 537-1159; website: www.bmjrmodels.com
The original Thermic 50 glider design dates back to the mid- to late-1930s and has inspired several modern kits throughout the years. Inspiration for BMJR’s kit came from a Jetco kit built in the 1960s, and a set of parts that were laser cut in 2000—hence the name Thermic-50-Y2K.
The BMJR kit follows the original model’s outline, with changes to accommodate laser cutting and simplify construction. A top and bottom wing spar with a smaller leading edge was added for a lighter and stronger structure, with provisions to hold RC gear and a brushless motor. A modern auto rudder was added for hi-start and towline launches. Provisions for a dethermalizer for Free Flight (FF) are described in the included instructions.
With a 50-inch wingspan and 227 square inches of wing area, the Thermic-50-Y2K RC version weighs 9 ounces, with the FF version weighing 41/2 ounces.

Star Plug Male/Female Plugs @ $2.99-$4.99 + S&H from Hobbico, 3002 N. Apollo Dr., Ste. #1, Champaign IL 61822; Tel.: (800) 637-7660; website: www.rcstarplug.com
The Star Plug brings to the table a better option in high-efficiency power plugs. Not only are they easier for modelers to use, they are 100% compatible with one of the most common polarized plugs used in RC modeling.
The unique design makes for faster, easier, and neater installations by eliminating the need for heat-shrink tubing. With a rear cap that separates from the main body, modelers slide the rear cap up the leads before soldering and slide it down afterward, snapping it tight to the main body. The rear cap features a center isolator that effectively prevents the terminals from shorting.
The main body and cap are molded from heat- and impact-resistant polymer, providing safe handling and a long life, while gold- and nickel-plating on the terminals ensure excellent conductivity. The tapered shape and grip strips make the Star Plug easy to separate and connect, and a stainless steel spring ensures that the connections start and stay tight.
Plugs are available as a pair of male and female, a set of two males, a set of two females, or as a set of four females.
